A tantalizing array of instruments from around the world and a strong soul-soothing voice are blended thoughtfully and tastefully in the unique and inspiring music of Tameem Afzali. Tameem puts his heart and soul into the composition of the music he produces. A life-long connoisseur of a wide variety of music types, Tameem has been mystically drawn to the music of his ancestors and of the Middle East. Tameem began playing the trumpet in the school band when he was only ten years old, but his real passion was to learn to play music from Afghanistan, Iran, India, Pakistan and the Arabic countries. His parents motivated him to study his native language and culture. At the age of twelve, he was singing in Farsi and playing the tablas, an Indian percussion instrument, with his father and uncle. He studied the tablas with Ustad Zakir Hussain,
i started playing tabla and singing when i was 13 years old and soon enough i got to study with the great ustad zakir hussain. by the time i was 18 i was performing with the most popular of the afghan singers like haidar salim, ahmad wali, farhad darya, naim popal, zahir howaida, ustad ultaaf hussain, and many more. when i got introduced to the world music scene i started collaborating and playing with all styles of music like flamenco, arabic, turkish, indian, pakistani, greek, hip hop, and various other unique styles. although i've been playing performing tabla for many years, i've also been singing just as long and i am in the studio producing my debut solo album.
